Two Raimondi flat-tops to support major healthcare expansion project in Ireland

News: 24 February 2026

Official Raimondi agent for Ireland, Irish Crane & Lifting continues to strengthen its footprint in the market with the deployment of one Raimondi MRT234 and one MRT294 on a major hospital expansion jobsite in Midwest Ireland.

The project forms part of a wider, three-phase redevelopment programme aimed at expanding and modernising the existing infrastructure to meet the growing regional healthcare demand.

“We are proud to continue reinforcing our commitment to supporting critical infrastructure developments across the country, with the redeployment of one Raimondi MRT234 and the installation of new Raimondi MRT294 at University Hospital Limerick campus,” said Robert Coffey, Managing Director, Irish Crane & Lifting.

Coffey explained that the MRT234 had already supported the first phase of the project, which delivered an additional 96 hospital beds over a four storey block. As construction progresses into the second phase, the MRT234 was repositioned onsite in Q3 2025.

Now freestanding at 41m, the crane presents a jib length of 55m and a tip load of 4.2t. The MRT294 has been erected to a height of 60.5 m, featuring a 70 m jib and a 3.5 t tip load, alongside the existing crane. Both machines are planned to keep the original configurations throughout the project.

“The combination of the MRT234-12 t and MRT294-14 t provides the lifting capacity, reach and operational flexibility required for such a complex site, particularly given its close proximity to a live operational hospital,” he explained.

Given the constrained site layout, one of the key challenges faced during the installation procedures was the mobile crane setup, which required careful planning to ensure that a public roadway remained open at all times. A 450-tonne mobile crane was mobilised to carry out the erection safely and efficiently.

Rented to the project contractor, the two Raimondi flat-tops will remain onsite for approximately 18 additional months. Upon completion, the new development will feature additional 96-beds and medical facilities.

Irish Crane & Lifting counts more than 60 Raimondi cranes within its fleet and is active across 25 construction sites throughout Ireland, supporting a wide range of major infrastructure and building projects.

Cranes manufactured by Raimondi continue to play a central role in the company’s operations, consistently demonstrating their reliability, versatility, and suitability for complex construction environments.
