Avenue Building Corporation marks another significant milestone with the deployment of a Raimondi LR273 luffing jib crane for a landmark project in Downtown Toronto, Canada.
This achievement further underscores Avenue’s involvement in several high profile projects across the region, including the country’s first Nobu Hotel and Residences and North America’s largest heritage retrofit.
“Avenue Building Corporation continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Toronto’s skyline,” stated Jim Patullo, President of Avenue, adding “for this project, we deployed one of the seven Raimondi LR273 cranes available in our fleet to support Capital Development, the project’s developer.”
Patullo further highlighted the strength of their ongoing collaboration, noting the deployment of a second Raimondi LR273 for Olive Residences, another of the developer’s high-rise developments in the city, which has now reached completion and where the crane will soon be dismantled.
Installed in Q4 of 2023, the Raimondi LR273 was configured to operate free-standing on a staging slab at ground floor level. Currently at a height of 54m with a jib length of 50m, the 18t-luffer presents a tip load of 5.34t. Equipped with an 86kW hoisting gear, the crane lifts at a maximum speed of 204 meters per minute and have a drum capacity of 980m, boasting excellent lifting performance.
“We opted for purchasing this specific model not only for its excellent load capacity and precision but also for its adaptability to challenging urban environments. Considering the logistical and technical challenges presented by the site’s unique position, another key specification was the ease of installation of the weight-optimized machine,” Patullo commented. He added that “the LR273 had to be erected in extremely tight confines, with the staging slab positioned above the parking levels that were simultaneously being excavated”.
“Avenue Building Corporation, a longstanding partner of Raimondi Cranes, continues to demonstrate its dedication to excellence by participating in some of the city’s most significant projects, reinforcing its reputation as a key player in shaping the Toronto’s evolving vertical development,” commented Mauro Masetti, Sales Director, Raimondi Cranes.
The 69-story mixed-use development combines heritage and modernity by preserving the historic facade of the James Fleming Building while delivering a cutting-edge architectural masterpiece. Located in the heart of the city, 8 Elm will feature over 800 residential units and several retail spaces.
